Wednesday (day34)
Afternoon all! After a rather difficult night of stress we arrived at the hospital to a fresh day. The medicine that Shawna received seemed to put her a step back in consciousness. There was not much reaction or movement this morning. The nurses assured us that the siezures which were small are just something the body will do when the brain starts to settle down. It also could have been triggered by not having food for 6 hrs and all the movement and stimulation. After lunch Shawna spent 2 hrs in the neuro chair. When Jessica Bartels was visiting Shawna seemed to be a little more conscious and was moving both arms and feet and legs a little bit. I tried to get Shawna to respond to command by asking her to move her left foot. After 3 or 4 seconds she did it. I tried to get her to move her right foot but that was not succesful. After a few minutes I tried again with the left foot and she reponded by moving it again. We were so excited that we told the physio therapist who just entered the room and she was amazed and asked if we could try again. I asked her to move her foot again and after a few seconds she moved both feet an inch or so. Now the physio therapist was excited. It was a very good sign. Now when ever we talk we are sure hears us depending on her level of consciousness. This happened yesterday as well with her left index finger but we didn't attach too much hope on it. We are very thankful to our Heavenly father for these small steps and continue to wait patiently. Al and Deb

Although we don't know you personally we are all God's covenant children and brothers and sisters in the Lord. We rejoice along with you with each new small miracle. Wonderful news to hear how Shawna is responding to your voices. God is merciful and hears our prayers.
May he continue to grant healing and the patience needed as each day passes with signs of improvement.
We continue to pray for you!
With love Ben & Anita
We read your post every day. Even though we do not know you personally, the children still ask for updates at the supper table, and they remember Shawna in prayer at school (CCS London) everyday. Your post today made me think of the hymn Great is Thy Faithfulness: morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed Thy hand hath provided. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
We rejoice with you in each new miracle. (We marvelled when we read your post about the accident and the extent of the damage, at what God has done!!) And we pray for continuing strength for you all to maintain a patient hope!
Sincerely, James and Miriam Slaa, Daniel, Timothy, Matthew, Hannah, Calvin, Sarah

Hello Shawna's Family:
We have a mutual friend, Gwen, who told me about your journey today.
Our family took this same path from June/03 to March/04. Our beautiful 17 year old daughter, Jenna Rose was involved in an accident which left her with severe head trauma. As I read your blog, I truly feel your pain and remember all too well, even the Doctor's name.
The night of Jenna's accident forced me to grasp the only thing that would get "me through" and that was my faith. I learnt many years ago that God will never give us more than we can handle, nor will He forsake us.
Isaiah 40:29 He strenthens those who are weak and tired. Even those who are young grow weak, young men can fall exhausted. But those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. The will rise on the wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not grow weak.
I learnt to not ask why but to accept that everything happens for a reason and only God knows his plans.
Jenna succumbed to an infection and God had completed preparation of her room in His mansion. She is wrapped in the arms of our Heavenly Father as is your Shawna.
I pray for your daughter and for your own strength to see you through. Have confidence knowing the Shawna is right where she should be. We were and are eternally grateful for the staff at the General as they became part of our family and held us together.
