Good afternoon all. Last night Darryl and I were holding Shawna's hands and talking to her about the winter storm going on outside. As we desrcibed the street outside and talked to the nurse Shawna mouthed a huge yawn. We could see her tongue neatly in place(no longer sticking out of her mouth) and her nicely brushed teeth. Simply amazing. It was something to our knowledge that hadn't happened since the accident(not talking about brushing her teeth). We almost yelled at the nurse to look. I did a little research though and it says a yawn is a reflex action associated with tiredness and stress(although exact cause is undertimined). We mustve been pretty boring.
Today her lungs are clearer and they continue to suction out the mucus. The blood and bladder cultures have not returned yet, but the fever seems to be under control. Several areas of Shawnas body are at different temperature and it could be that the part of the brain that regulates temperature may not be settled yet. Dr Wells has seen her again and we have been told there should be no further danger to the brain swelling it should continue to settle down. The ICU doctors have decided they will try to remove one of the two "pegs" which keep her left lung inflated. They will leave the one in both the right and the left in place for now. They are going to try to reduce the amount of air the ventilator gives her so they can see if she is ready to breathe on her own as she routinely breathes above what is supplied. They are also going to slowly reduce the sedatives she recieves. Although there are still many concerns, Shawnas life is firmly in the hands of our great Physician. We are thankful for the blessings and progress we have received today and continue to look to him for our daily support. Thank you all for you continued prayers. Yours in Christ. Al and Deb

We give thanks for each step in progress for shawna. May God continue to uphold you and give you much strength for the days ahead.
Every time you mention Dr. Wells, I'm reminded of when my own brother was in the General with a serious head injury -- Dr. Wells was his doctor back then (almost 16years ago!!) We are so blessed to have doctors like him to care for our loved ones, and we continue to pray that the best Doctor of all will speed Shawna's recovery.

I find it difficult to believe that 20 days have gone by already! And then, when I think on it further, it seems as though it has been a year....Thank you so much for your daily reports. Because of them, we feel that we are closer to Shawna and to you all, and keeps us constantly focused on our Great Physician, and His absolute control over all of our lives. May our Father continue to uphold you all and give you peace.

I just wanted to let you know that we check your blog everyday... to see the progress made by Shawna eventhough she may not know.

Wow..another small step to be thankful for! We pray each and every day with the kids for you and yours. Mackenzie really remembers skating with Shawna at the family due New Years day! She talks of her fondly...Shawna always made a point to talk to everyone that day...and pray that she'll again be able to do that soon. May God continue to give you strength and assurance.

Dear brave one's.. I pray that you all can be held up by God's mighty powerful and gracious hands. It must not be easy to be patient with our dear Lord's will. This may very well be your hardest test in trusting that in everything is God and is made by God and is done by God.. I pray with every inch of my soul that God's Grace and Guidence bubble you all and keep you all clear and strong for your beautiful wonderful little girl, sister and friend! Shawna is beautiful and wonderful and I am apsolutly one hundred percent positive that she is thanking our Father for such wonderful parents, brothers(in-law) and sisters(in-law). I did not have a chance last night to read the blog, so this morning, when I went down to read it, and good news appeared, it made our day! We are so happy to hear some positive signs.
