Monday (day 172)

Good morning all. It was a beautiful weekend. Firstly Shawna had a good physio day on Friday with a good session standing and sitting as her casts were taken off. There is some concern though that she will have to be operated on to loosen the tendons of her ankles to get her feet back to neutral position as the serial casting has not been having the desired effect. On Saturday Shawna was home. Jess worked quickly on curling her hair and we went to her cousin Michelle's wedding. She came back home to bed for a few hours and then came to the reception. She really enjoyed the events and was very animated trying to talk several times. He managed to stay fully awake till 1100 pm and went home for a good nights sleep in her own bed. Sunday morning she was wide awake at 800 am and smiling. When I asked her if she liked her new room she blinked affirmative. Sunday afternoon she attended the inaugural sermon of Rev Huijgen in Attercliffe which was followed by several of her friends coming over to visit till she had to return to Chedoke. Again when we got her back at 1000pm she was still quite awake and alert. This is definitely another change as the medications continue to awaken her. She didn't want me to leave as the nurses put her to bed for the night and after this weekend it was very hard to leave. We enjoyed a sort of normalcy which hasn't been in our home for half a year and that was a huge blessing which we received from God's hand this week. We continue to be blessed by His hand and continue to receive support and help from the communion of saints as we continue on the path laid out for us. Thankyou for your continued prayers and support. Al and Deb

Because the Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything I need ! He lets me rest in the meadow grass and leads me beside the quiet streams. He restores my failing health. He helps me do what honours Him the most.

This psalm is really applicable for the situation where Shawna and all of you are in. We continue praying foer all of you.

Love from the ooms + tantes from Holland.

Shawna, Deb and Al,

Thanks for your posts on how Shawna is doing and also, thank you for the encouragement of hearing of how our dear Lord is strengthening and helping you all along.

This is Dr. C from the Hamilton General Hospital. I helped treat Shawna during those weeks that she got out of the ICU and into the regular ward in February.

When I think of where you were, Shawna, then and what you are able to do now - the healing you have undergone is wonderful. I'm sure that at times it seems slow and difficult but I encourage you to persevere as you have been doing. Not giving up hope, because He who is faithful will continue to bless and keep you all close to Him.

I had a thought; possibly your therapists have mentioned it - it sounds like you are still having trouble speaking. Have you tried singing? Sometimes when the ordinary speech centres are damaged, some people find that their singing is not affected... perhaps you can find your voice in that way.

Praying that you will all find His patience, joy and healing, blessings to you.

Dear Bethlehems, and loved ones of Shawna:
We just read the last blog here from our daughter's computer in Edmonton. What a beautiful week-end for you all. We are so happy that this all could happen for you. The wedding of our Grand daughter was beautiful, and Katie was a beautiful brides maid. We wish you all the Lord's blessings as you go through this week's procedures. May He continue to give you all what you need to go on each day, trusting Him in everything.

Dear "old neighbors"
We love to read your Blog twice a week.
And God has blessed Shawna's healing a lot!!
We hope you'll find the strength in God to keep going and to stay positive even though you'll have to be patience.
How lovely to have Shawna home and that everyone enjoyed it so much, especially Shawna of course. And that she could attend the wedding!

Blessings abound! How gracious the Great Physician is in granting His healing to His beloved.
May we all rely on Him in the same way that you all witness to us in every blog, for all we need in spirit, body and soul.
