Sunday (day 80)

Good morning all. It was a rather tiring day yesterday as Deb has a cold and I'm pulling the double duty. I waited for posting till this morning. Shawna continues to improve albiet slowly. We've had contact from the Community Intervention Co-ordinator at Chedoke who asked us to call back in a couple of weeks on how Shawna is doing. This is especially concerning infections and whether she is clear of them. Although Shawna is not at the top of the list when a bed becomes available and she is free of infections they will come to Dunnville to asses her. The coordinater told us to go ahead with the house modifications because everthing has to be in place since they will teach us how to take complete care of Shawna for the weekends as they would like to see her go home on weekends. People have been down to measure, design and quote on various alterations so there is some movement in that respect. Shawnas blood was tested again on Friday and her white blood count has decreased significantly. She is moving her legs more and more and moves her right arm up and down when asked. Its slow but there is movement and wait time for responses is decreasing. She mouthed and swallowed succesfully her first two teaspons of chocolate milk yesterday at lunch and her smile was instantaneous...she's a huge chocolate fan! Shawna is having an easier time sleeping with her head turned left which is a very good sign about brain swelling. She will be away to Hamilton most of this coming Monday to get a new CT scan and appointments with Drs. Wells, Sne, and Saddler. She also has an easier time sleeping with her feet casts on for 24 hrs now as there have been no pressure points detected and her ankles forms are being maintained. In two weeks she will go for the next set at Chedoke. These are all small blessings but blessings none the less as our Father continues to provide for Shawna. We are so thankful that we can see some light now in the tunnel towards getting Shawna home. We continue to be thankfulk and upheld by your prayers, cards, giftn and messages. God bless you all and may he give you a blessed day of praise and worship. Al and Deb

Dear Al, Deb, Shawna, Family and Darryl,
I just read your blog and am so impressed what dr's and nurses can do for Shawna. We can see that the LORD has blessed all that has been done for Shawna medically speaking. We pray that you too are comforted in the fact that God is carrying you through the trying times as well as the good times. May we all be aware of this. Praise God. We will continue to thank God for His goodness and also continue to pray for your needs.
Bert, Minny and family.

Dear Bethlehem family:
Thanks for your faithful updates. Although the comments have become less, please do not misconstrue this as meaning that we are not remembering you all before the throne of God. You are in our thoughts and prayers, even when we do not leave comments behind. May God grant you all you need in the time that lies ahead.

What a blessing when the doctors can talk about Shawna going home. This in itself is a great blessing for Shawna and also for you as parents and the rest of the family. We continue to pray for patience for you all that you may take each day in the comfort that the Lord, our heavenly Father is watching over Shawna and her loved ones. Remember to rest and take care of yourselves for Shawna will need you to be ready for her when she does come home. Have a good rest tonight to help with your busy day tomorrow with all the tests Shawna will undergo.

Dear debby,ala,,darryl + family,
Here in Holland now it is almost 12 o'clock in the evening. We had a nice sunday with on the end the good news on this blog. What a blessings on one day. And the next song knows everybody and is said in all churches to day:
We believe in God the Father,
Maker of the universe
And in Christ, His Son, our Saviour
come to us by virgin birth.
We believe He died to save us,
bore our sins was crucified
Then from death He rose victorious
ascended to the Father's side.
We believe He send His Spirit
on His Church with gifts of power
God, His Word of truth affirming
sends us to the nations now.
He will come again in glory
judge the living and the dead
Every knee shall bow before Him
then must every tongue confess
Jesus
Lord of all, Lord of all
Name above all names
Lord of All.

The ooms and tantes in Holland.
+ our children.

Dear Bethlehem family:
How wonderful it is to read the blog twice each week, and to keep hearing of all the so called "small steps" Shawna is making. We are so thankful to the Lord. He has brought her, and you all this far, and He will continue to carry you through each day. We continue to pray for all of you each day. May the Lord give you all what you stand in need of each day. With love from the van Ykens

How exciting that you are now preparing for Shawna to go home on weekends! That is a major step forward! We continue to be humbled as we read of how richly the Lord has blessed each of you. May He continue to strengthen you all and give you what you need when you need it. All glory be to Him alone!

You remain in our thoughts and prayers.

We have had a wonderful Sunday of praise, worship and fellowship here in Edmonton. The LORD's promise of the change of seasons is so evident in this province. Spring warmth is encouraging the perennials to peek out of their brown and dry winter beds, and I love it! Your twice weekly posts do the same for me as the spring. GOD is showing you that His promises do stand true, and all the little blessings of progress you pass on to us add up to big changes. I just went back to the original posts to remind myself of how this all started, and I am in awe of both the gift of steady progress you have received, and also the gift of steadfastness and patience He has given you. You have not wavered in your trust that all things work for good for God's children. Through you we all are encouraged also; GOD is so good.
May He bless you and yours in your day to day lives - in all those things that must go on, even when a loved one is in distress.
With hugs from out West,
Joanne Vg

Dear Deb & Al, Darryl and families
Thank you for your blog updates.
Wow, we do have an awesome God! And really, what a wonderful world He has created. All the dedicated doctors and nurses, therapists and all who have assisted along this path have been instruments in His Hand. I continue to thank the Lord with you for the great progress Shawna has been making.
May our Father continue to give you strength and continue to put people along the path that will encourage and assist you.

It's so nice of you to take time to write comments down each wednesday and saturday or sunday. =)
It is such a blessing knowing that Shawna is improving each and every day, even when she dosnt improve very much on a certain day, she is still improving a little bit and that is still so much of a blessing.
We pray for you and Shawna and the family, and we hope for more healing and strength for Shawna.
May God be with you in this difficult and long process.
Love,
Kristen
PS>hope to see you soon!

Dear Bethlehems and Daryl

Haven't responded for some time, but we have not stopped praying for you and Shawna.
After all these long days of Shawna being in the hospital and receiving doctors and nurses care, we stand amazed at the patience and strenght the Lord is giving you. I am sure you are down at times too, but you are (by Gods grace and mercy) doing a fantastic job keeping our heads up. Darryl knowing you well we want to let you know that we are thinking about you so much, and our prayer for you is, keep your head up.
How beautiful that she responds to you, and follows you with her eyes. (she always did) You must have something she likes.
We are reminded all the time through something like this how important the smaal things are that God gives us. How much we take for granted.
Our prayer for you all and Shawna is that her progress may continue, and that you can continue to see His hand in all things, Who already new that this was going to be before Shawna was born. We wish all of you strenght as you stand by her bed, and aslo have to be a mom and dad for the rest of the family.
Lots of love Brian and Ina Van Andel
