Wednesday
Sorry for the tardy post today. We wanted to wait till we met with the surgeons to give a more informed picture of what's going on. The surgeon is very pleasde with the chest inscisions and lung repairs. The chest may be closed in the next couple of days. The neurologist is very concerned with the amount of damage that shows up on the CT scan. Several areas which regulate the eyes and thought and movement are still very swollen and possibly irrepairably damage. Of course the doctor gives us the worst case scenario but we still notice small things which give us hope for her recovery. When we grasp Shawnas hand her hand tightens around ours noticeably. Not with an immediate strength but just a tightening. When someone familiar talks to her at times when she may be awake her heart beat increases from 60 to almost 70 beats. We are confident we have been chosen to go down this road in Gods plan. We are constantly upheld by everyones prayers and hopes. Thankyou ever so much for the visits. We really do enjoy them as we are trying for the next week to give Shawna as much rest as possible and just hanging around the ICU waiting room. The neurologist will know better in a week what is going so we have decided to give her less stimulants of personal contacts. Continue your prayers for us, Darryl and the Hoesema family. During this time of need we are so uplifted by the outporing of God's Holy Spirit when we read the responses to this blog. The communion of his saints all over the world is precious to Him and comforting to us. Thank you

-cry out to God for help during trouble.
"How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death; my enemy will say, "I have overcome him," and my foes will rejoice when I fall. But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me."
Psalm 13-all verses
Love,

My hope is in the Lord,
Who has renewed my strength,
When everything seems senseless,
My hope is still in Him
Who has made heaven and earth,
And things seen and unseen.
Whatever shade of passing day
My hope is still in Him.

It was only a year ago that I was in the same situation as shawna. She might have a few more complications but in many ways it is not all that different. I remember nothing from the time in coma. I have no memory of pain or of anything that was done to me or put into me. By the time I woke up I was unaware of what happened, where I was or why I was even in hospital. I know that most of the suffering happened to those around me who loved me most. I am sure that it is likely the same for shawna. Take comfort in the providence of God. Whether she is given the recovery that I was given or not there is a reason and purpose for all things. May we all once again be reminded of the frailty of life and our true calling and purpose. To God be all glory. Rich Feenstra.

We DO have hope and certainty. You know that our lives are in God's gracious Hand and that He is the "one" set of footprints in the sand during the most difficult time in your lives. God will never forsake you but will pick you up and carry you through. Trust in our God and Father and He will continue to grant your daily needs.
