I am starting this blog on behalf of the family of Shawna Bethlehem. This blog will be updated as news of Shawna's condition becomes available.
To let everyone know what is happening, the following is an excerpt from an e-mail that Shawna's father wrote this morning.
As I am writing, Shawna should be in an operation to hold her pelvic bone in place and start to close her abdominal area.
Please feel free to leave messages , as the family will be checking this blog.
From Al:
Good morning Friends and family. As most of you have heard and been there for us, our daughter Shawna was involved in a very serious car accident in which she had to be extracted and airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital. She underwent major surgery to remove her spleen and repair her deflated left lung and fix other blood loss. At one point it was told to myself Debbie and Darryl that the doctors had done everything they could but she was bleeding out from the thin blood(she received 15 units). They gave her a special shot to promote clotting which seemed to stabilize her enough to have a cat scan done to determine the extent of head injuries. It was determined at that point she would have to have immediate surgery to remove part of her skull to allow the brain to expand upwards instead of down which would kill the brain. surgery was completed at 330am today and she is resting comfortably. The brain will continue to expand for between 48 to 72 hours. This is a critical time in our daughters life. Her blood pressure and heart beat is good as well as the brain pressure. We also learned that she only had a broken pelvis which is going to be held in place externally. I just got off the phone with Rebecca who is at her side and she apparently squeezed back on Rebecca's hand. They will be completing surgery closures to her stomach area this afternoon. We continue to be upheld and encircled by our Lords arms and we are most appreciative to all the support we have been shown by our brothers and sisters in Christ. Please continue to pray for Shawna that she also may experience the riches of God's mercy.
Yours in Christ Al and Deb Bethlehem
Please continue to pray for the continued healing of a very special daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend.

He walks with us
"The road of life may take us where we do not care to go~
Up rocky paths, down darkened trails, our steps unsure and slow.
But our dear Lord extends His hand to hold, to help, to guide us.
We never have to feel alone for He walks close beside us".
May you find strength in God's presence at this time ~ May His love be your comfort.
Praying for you all!

My dear Granddaughter SHAWNA
My children Debbie and AL
As we pray and think of Shawna, we may have the comfort of Lords Day one , where we confesss that our only comfort in life and death is that we belong to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and as such we are safe what ever befalls us .
What a tremendous comfort to know that.

Dear Al and Deb.
..here in Lynden, Wash. We share our love and concern with you and your family, the communal family of our Heavenly Father. We are comforted by the words in the Psalms 119 :73_77,["..and in faithfulness you have afflicted me. May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise.."] May He grant you His Comfort, Love and Peace! May our prayers and the wishes of us all move our Heavenly Father to provide healing and restoration in us all, not only His dear child Shawna.
